The focal point of the grounds at Red Hill is the largest and oldest Osage Orange Tree in America. It has a span of ninety feet and stands fifty-four feet high.

I am professional woodworker and it is my opinion that Osage orange is one of the lovliest woods in creation, a wonderful golden color with a certain luminesence but oh so very hard. Now I will try the fruit and so inquire for my self wether it poseses any insect repeling properties.

Hi, Mr. Hedgeapple; Many, many years ago (when I was a kid) I helped my family pick up hedgeapples. Besides using them in the house we fed them to the hogs. . . . they loved them. The only place I see them anymore is when we go thru Kansas on the way to Oklahoma. I have picked some up along the road when it was the right time of year. . . .

General Comments: We live around trees and our back yard is constantly webbed with spiders. When I got the apples and placed them throughout the house, I stopped seeing spiders in the yard and in the house. At one point I had a spider drop down on me on the couch...I am deathly afraid of spiders, so the hedge apples have been my life saver. I recommend them to anyone! I can't wait to get me next order!!!!.

General Comments: I grew up in a "scientific" family in MD. When I married and moved to Ohio there were many"folk" remedies and practices that I was sceptical of. I gathered hedge apples and put them around the house for 2 years in a row. Then, the third year, I didn't have time to do it. WOW! I battled spiders all winter!! (We live near two creeks, which doesn't help the bug problem) I haven't gone without circling my house with hedge apples in the fall ever since. My children and grandchildre use them also. We gather them along-side country roads in the fall. .
