General Comments: The only effect they seemed to have was to activate the spiders. They kept crawling aroung which was even more unnerving than when they sat in the corner and didn't move. General Comments: I was pretty amazed. Within 2 weeks, we quit seeing spiders. We had just built & moved into our new home in July. Bugs in the Mid West love the weather. New home...house open...many trees in back of the house...we were going to have bugs, no matter what. But, the wolf spiders were just huge last year! And by the time we'd settled in & the spiders had found new places to hide, we started seeing 2 or 3 a day in the house, outside, etc. One night we saw one scitter across the driveway & it looked like a small cat! Then one night, my then 8 months along pregnant wife put on her house slippers & thought she felt a rubber band in the toe of a slipper...she kicked it off & out crawls a wolf spider the size of a Miracle Whip lid! We were nearly parents for the 3rd time, right there in the living room. ...I found hedgeapple.com....noticed that our tree line is an old hedge-row...found some hedgeballs & placed them in the bedrooms, basement & closets. Within 2 weeks, we stopped seeing them completely. Saw a drop in the first week. Our problem is that the hedgeapples are "ripe" in the late Summer & I have no apples for the early Spring, which is almost here. At any rate...use hedgeapples for spiders. They really do work. I don't know about any other bugs because spiders are all we saw. I'd say you could smash a roach WITH a hedgeapple if you had to....

General Comments: We cannot applaud hedgeapples enough! We live at 9500' in Colorado and have constant mouse guests that destroy all sorts of natural fabric items and leave lots of seeds and D-con pills in the most unusual places. We spent the winter and spring in Florida, departing 11-1-01 with a full case of the apples in place. We returned for Christmas holidays and found the house completely rodent- and bug-free. What a wonderful surprise! We left the apples in place and came home April 30 to find a pristine home, except for all the dead flies which were easily vaccuumed up. I cannot tell you how pleased we have been with this simple, safe, natural deterent to the creatures that want to share our home! Because of our exceptionally dry air, the apples did not rot or disintegrate -- simply dried. Many of the apples continue to be partially green even now. The fragance is quite pleasant, also. Apparently the adult roaches left almost immediately. The juveniles left as soon as they were large enough to do so, but before they laid any more eggs. So the cycle was broken.

General Comments: I would actually say that the reduction of spiders is more like 80 to 90%, though not 100%. I've only been using them since early August 2010, and it looks like there are still some effects keeping the spiders away (we finally threw our shriveled hedgeapples away last week). I'm not sure if our lack of ants in the house is due to the hedgeapples or if we just haven't had any ants come in. The hedgeapples also seem to be good at getting rid of moths, and may be keeping some centipedes away. The morning after we put some hedgeapples out, we found a big spider running away very fast from the direction of one of our hedgeapples, and over time I have noticed that spiders moved away from them. When I'd "chase" them with a hedgeapple (that is, keep moving it under their position on the ceiling), they'd finally give up and leave, never to be seen again! I am definitely getting more..

General Comments: I grew up in a "scientific" family in MD. When I married and moved to Ohio there were many"folk" remedies and practices that I was sceptical of. I gathered hedge apples and put them around the house for 2 years in a row. Then, the third year, I didn't have time to do it. WOW! I battled spiders all winter!! General Comments: I discovered Hedgeapples when I was searching for a non-toxic insect killer because my son and his cat were both on a chemotherapy regimen. We had started seeing spiders moving in so we were willing to try anything that wasn't toxic. Holy moly....the first day we saw 3 slowly crawling spiders that we caught easily and flushed. Then NOTHING until mid-summer. I wish they grew naturally around here, but I have to rely upon a local independent grocer to get hedgeapples. I may try to plant some of the seeds along my back fence and see how they do here.

General Comments: These grow wild all around our farm, so we pick buckets full & just toss them around. There is never an odor, they dry very well. Many times we forget where we tossed them & will find them later. Our grandparents & great grandparents used them in house as well. During lean times, they were gathered to feed to our cattle. Of course hedge posts for fence, the best there is, lasts for decades. Very hard wood for burning. The thorns are major problem, if one breaks off under your skin, can cause a pretty bad infection. Those thorns are very sharp & long, easily puncture thru the soles of shoes.

General Comments: I swear by them, after they have dried up I still leave them where I put them. I do put a small piece of foil under them because they can start to mold. I may get a few spiders in the house until they are replaced in August. I have had up to 8 dogs in my house at one time and the dogs have never bothered them. General Comments: I had an abundance of daddy long legs spiders that I just kept vacuuming up occasionally. Bought four hedgeapples, and saw no changes. I'd even put within a foot of a couple of them - nothing.
After about a month and a half, the hedgeapples started going bad. And then shortly after that, the spiders have all disappeared from inside the whole house. Maybe it's just a timing thing, but I don't remember all spiders disappearing in previous years in Oct/Nov (I'm in SoCal.) I'm thinking maybe once they started going bad, then the effects were more potent, and that's what then chased the spiders away. At the current time, the spiders are all gone after 2 months, and the hedgeapples have all gone bad. So I'll toss them. And if the spiders come back, will try again to see if they have the same effect. If they do, then I'll be looking for some nice containers to put them in, and probably keep a couple around all the time so they can go bad and not look bad..

My little boy was fansinated with the hedge apples when we were on the farm yesterday. We found one tree that had them from 8" - 10" in diamiter. This is a cool site. I always put them around my house and will probably stick a few inside now that I've read about them. Didn't know that the Osage Orange was the same tree as a hedge!!
